Since 2008 Ezypay has been conducting the Fitness Industry Survey. We survey both owners/managers and fitness club members across Australia and New Zealand. The questions are varied and each year we focus on a particular topic. These range from retention, sales, technology, social media and personal training.

This year we had over 19,000 fitness club members and 1,150 club owners or managers respond. This is significantly up from last year when we had over 15,000 responses.

We are proud to release the first report in a series  from the survey.  This is an infograph all about fitness clubs members.  Information available on the infograph includes their location, gender, reason for joining, reason for leaving, types of clubs joined, importance of interaction with staff, preferred channels of communication, satisfaction and why they would re-join after leaving.

Here are some interesting facts:

  1. The average club member is a woman.  In fact 71% of all members are women.
  2. The largest reason a member joins a club is location.
  3. Members would prefer their clubs to send them an email or an email newsletter.
  4. Clubs prefer to speak to members in person.
  5. 40% of members don’t care about interaction with staff at the club.

Celeste Kirby-Brown, Director of Sales, Marketing and Relationships at Ezypay says “We have had an overwhelming response to the Fitness Industry survey this year with nearly 20,000 respondents across Australia and New Zealand.  This makes this survey the largest of the Fitness Industry ever.”
